Located in the heart of the national capital region, and situated between Ottawa and Gatineau, the Domtar Lands Redevelopment consists of nearly 40 acres of former contaminated industrial lands, being transformed into a sustainability showpiece. As one of the first projects on the Domtar Lands, the pedestrian-oriented Zibi Ontario Mixed-use Community consists of ground floor retail with potential for additional commercial spaces, and residential suites on the upper floors. It is located on the north side of Head Street Square, an urban plaza rung by retail shops with framed views of Parliament, the Chaudière Falls, and the Ottawa River.
Zibi is one of the greenest redevelopment projects in the world following Windmill Developments and Dream Unlimited’s master plan, and the first project in North America to be implemented under the ‘One Planet Living’ sustainability framework. This policy sets out ten principals including Zero Carbon, Zero Waste, Sustainable Transportation, Sustainable Materials, Local and Sustainable Food, Sustainable Water, Natural Habitats and Wildlife, Culture and Heritage, Equity and Economy, and Health and Happiness.
