Sponsored by the Royal Institute of Architecture in Canada, In-Context has launched a video campaign to highlight the story of Waterloo’s historic intersection of Erb & Caroline, which now hosts four award-winning architectural works. Interviews with Bill Poole (Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery), Shirley Blumberg (CIGI Campus), Gilles Saucier (Perimeter Institute, Phase 1), and Stephen Teeple (Perimeter Institute, Phase 2) are woven together to reveal the array of ideas and buildings that influenced the urban realm of the rapidly growing Waterloo region. Half of the projects would not have been possible without funding and support by Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, co-founders of Research in Motion.

“Intersection of Erb&Caroline” is the 2nd part of a documentary video series that explore buildings and public spaces that have made a significant social, cultural or environmental impact in Canada.

Our team took a trip to Ottawa this week to celebrate the achievements of visionary projects completed recently by Canadian architects. Among the 12 recipients is the beloved community housing development, 60 Richmond Street East, designed by Teeple Architects for the Toronto Community Housing Co-operative. A sense of mutual admiration and enthusiasm marked the ceremony as architects with diverse design philosophies came together in one place to celebrate their visions being realized through practice. A public lecture Monday evening preceded the official ceremony at Rideau Hall on Tuesday—an event Stephen Teeple was honoured to speak at on behalf of the social impact that projects such as the 60 Richmond Housing Co-operative cultivate.

We would especially like to thank the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts for making this celebration possible.
