The resulting system provided a cost-effective and thermally-efficient solution. Wood Cladding: In order to accentuate the curving exterior walls, bevel siding was used in a non-traditional vertical application, creating a saw-tooth texture. Three bevel profiles were custom-milled from sustainably harvested Eastern White Cedar.

Conceived of in close collaboration between Teeple Architects and the Structural Engineers, Fast + Epp, the pine beetle wood skeleton is joined by custom-designed and CNC-milled Douglas fir nodes. These laminated confluence points were modeled precisely in 3D software so that the internal tensile steel hardware could be inserted during their fabrication in Structure Craft’s warehouse. Transported to site and joined in situ, the combination of local wood species creates an evocative spatial expression reminiscent of a primordial skeleton.

We’ve teamed up with Fast + Epp to invent a creative and innovative process for custom-designed wood structural nodes for the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum in Wembley, Alberta.

We modeled the structural nodes in Rhino and passed it on to our structural engineer, who modeled the necessary hardware in place before each piece was cut. Our friends at Structure Craft have been doing a fantastic job pre-fabricating the nodes in their warehouse and will deliver them to be installed on site.

Production is on schedule for the opening next year and we are extremely excited to share the results as they come!
