On behalf of the Collaborative Partnership of Two Row Architect (Prime), Teeple Architects Inc., and Low Hammond Rowe Architects we are thrilled to share that the University of Victoria’s National Centre for Indigenous Laws has been recognized with an Honorable Mention in Architectural Design / Educational Buildings in the 2024 Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) Awards.

The annual Architecture MasterPrize, an esteemed global awards program, celebrates innovative and inspiring architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, architectural product design and architectural photography across the world. With thousands of submissions from more than 80 countries, our team is honoured to be recognized amongst our peers worldwide. Thank you Architecture MasterPrize for this acknowledgment, and congratulations to all the other winners!

The University of Victoria’s National Centre for Indigenous Laws is dedicated to shaping a shared path for Reconciliation in legal practice, housing the world’s first joint degree program in Common Law and Indigenous Legal Orders. A direct response to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the design was developed in dialogues with Indigenous legal scholars, Elders and knowledge-keepers. Embodying ideas of “forest as teacher” and “walking the path,” the building sets a precedent for how architecture can meaningfully advance processes of decolonization.

MSU Tyler Hall Recognized with the National Stone Institute’s 2022 Tucker Design Award

Morgan State University’s Calvin & Tina Tyler Hall Student Services Center was awarded a 2022 Tucker Design Award by the National Stone Institute; the awards ceremony was held in Toronto this past June. Founding Principal and Design Principal-in-Charge Stephen Teeple and Principal and Senior Design Architect / Manager Tomer Diamant accepted the award on behalf of Teeple Architects, in association with GWWO Architects from the Natural Stone Institute’s President Badia “Buddy” Ontra.

Desautels Concert Hall Wins the 2021 A’N Best of Design Award in Unbuilt – Education Category

We’re pleased to share that our Desautels Concert Hall project for the University of Manitoba has received the Architect’s Newspaper “A’N Best of Design 2021″ award. Designed in collaboration with Winnipeg’s Cibinel Architecture, the 400-seat hall was calibrated to deliver an optimal acoustical environment across a wide array of performance configurations ranging from small vocal recitals to large orchestral ensembles and operatic performances. The wooden ‘lining’ of the hall’s interior, incorporating reconfigurable variable acoustic elements, reaches out from the stage to embrace the house, bringing audience and performers together.

The Jury praised the design, stating:

“One of the great challenges of making theater buildings good neighbors is finding ways to wrap the program with an architectural expression that doesn’t overwhelm the surroundings with looming blank walls. This project does that admirably—the curved entryway and shifting planes of the envelope come together to create an eminently approachable and seductive building.”

Morgan State University’s Calvin & Tina Tyler Hall has been recognized by the 2021 Architect’s Newspaper Best of Design Awards with an Honorable Mention in the Institutional – Higher Ed category. Projects were honored for their innovation, creative use of new technology, sustainability, and, most importantly, good design.

Toronto’ Alexandra Park Revitalization Wins ULI Global Awards for Excellence

Congratulations are in order for Alexandra Park’s Revitalization winning the Urban Land Institute (ULI Toronto) Global Awards for Excellence. We are very proud to have worked alongside Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) and Tridel on SQ & SQ2.

Of the nine Global Awards for Excellence winners, Alexandra Park was the only Canadian community to earn this prestigious honour. The Alexandra Park community also won one of the ULI Americas Awards for Excellence earlier this summer, before advancing to being one of 45 international submissions for the Global Awards.

We would like to congratulate the whole project team on this tremendous success!

Two Teeple Projects Shortlisted in This Year’s The Plan Magazine Awards Competition

The praise for Morgan State University’s Calvin & Tina Tyler Hall keeps on coming! The Plan Magazine has shortlisted Tyler Hall in the Education category of their annual international competition that recognizes excellence in the fields of architecture, interior design, and urban planning.

We are also very happy to share that the Edmonton Public Library’s Stanley A. Milner Library Renewal has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Culture category of the 2021 The Plan Magazine Awards.

Public voting is now open for the program’s Community Wish List Special Prize, and both projects are in the running.

Morgan State University’s Calvin & Tina Tyler Hall Receives 2021 SCUP Excellence Award!

The recently completed Calvin & Tina Tyler Hall new student services building at Morgan State University in Baltimore, in collaboration with GWWO Architects has been recognized with top honors in the annual SCUP (Society of College and University Planners) Awards program for Excellence in Architecture. The SCUP Excellence Award honors achievement in strategic, integrated planning that results in exemplary buildings and grounds, institutional success, and careers that inspire, of which Morgan State University has received the Honor Award—the highest level of recognition. We want to congratulate @morganstateu and the entire team!

Trent University Student Centre Receives OAA Design Excellence Award

Teeple Architects are proud to announce that the Trent University Student Centre has been awarded an Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) 2020 Design Excellence Award.

Selecting from 79 eligible submissions, a jury of design and architecture experts chose the 10 winners, using criteria such as creativity, context, sustainability, business, and legacy. The biennial OAA Awards program offers Ontario architects an opportunity to present their work to the public and to a professional audience, demonstrating the excellence of both their work and the profession as a whole. This year, the program began requiring Energy Use Intensity (EUI) metrics for all submissions, reflecting that sustainable design is no longer a specialty, but rather a critical component of all building projects as the architecture profession strives for climate stability.

The Student Centre’s architecture fuses the building with the Otonabee River landscape; offers a respectful contemporary response to the materiality and formal logic of the Ron Thom campus; and draws students together to make meaningful connections. The building’s detailing – including strong horizontal expression, and judicious balance of generous glazing with photo-etched precast concrete – communicate with the university’s architectural legacy creating a dynamic backdrop to daily activities. Showcasing contemporary learning and teaching spaces around a central, three-storey atrium, the interior becomes a crossroads for daily student life and is a luminous and porous counterpoint to the original campus architecture.

Stay tuned for the People’s Choice Award online voting which opens Friday, September 18. An online Celebration of Excellence is scheduled to take place on October 1 from 4:30-6 PM EST.
