The OCAD University new Fabrication Centre welcomed its first students this past January. The Centre officially opened its doors last Friday with a vibrant celebration that included students, staff, faculty and members of the Teeple Architects team.
As part of the OCAD University Creative City Campus expansion project, the Fabrication Centre in the university’s main building at 100 McCaul was transformed through a complete renovation and reorganization of the existing space to meet their current requirements. The project improves upon the university’s studio-based learning environments by expanding studios and improving infrastructure within existing spaces. The centre features studios for Wood, Metal, and Plastics; a Rapid Prototyping Centre; Fabrication Studio Management Office; expanded Studio Sales and Services; Health Room; and expanded assembly space. The new Centre is reorganized along a central corridor that improves navigation and increases visibility into the studios while also adding more student work and gathering spaces.
